18: Postpartum “Bounce Back” Culture + Weight Loss While Breastfeeding

🫠 Why am I not bouncing back postpartum? If you’ve ever wondered that, this episode is for you.

I’m pulling back the curtain on a hormone most of us only think of as “the milk maker” — prolactin. We’ll talk about how prolactin reshapes your metabolism after birth, why it encourages fat storage in specific places (hips, thighs, arms, and belly), and how it interacts with thyroid, sex hormones, insulin, and dopamine.

You’ll hear why your body is holding on to weight even when you’re eating clean and exercising, and why that’s not a sign of failure — it’s actually a sign that your body is brilliantly protecting your baby and your milk supply.

Instead of chasing the bounce-back, I’ll share what I’m focusing on instead: protein, blood sugar balance, strength and gentle movement, and daily practices to support dopamine, lower stress, and build strength for the long haul.

If you’re in a season of discouragement with your postpartum body, this conversation will help you breathe easier, release the pressure to bounce back, and trust the wisdom of God's design. 🫶🏼💜
